A day without shoes

Be a part of the movement! :)  Check it out HERE.

Not so little

Today was the day the little gremlins moved from their newborn car seats to their big girl car seats.
They aren't yet 22lbs, in fact they are probably still lingering on 19lbs, but they were getting so fussy and uncomfortable in their new borns and were sticking out and squished in the most odd ways we just had to migrate them.
Does this mean they are getting older and growing?  Yes, too fast if you ask me.  I remember when they were doing car seat tests in the NICU and were barely big enough, now when in those car seats they fill the entire thing and then some!

I will say this though, they love their new ones.  They can see out the windows better and just laugh, giggle, and talk to one another as everything passes them.  I get quite the kick on our way to the sitter in the mornings.
Although it's made it more difficult having to go back and forth to the car and grabbing them since they can't walk yet...I don't know how I'm going to handle taking them places?  I'm sure it's not too difficult..
Right?

Anyway, today I'm off to the post office to change my name on my passport and get a new picture taken, then have it expedited so that I get it back by May.  Is it OK if I'm a little upset about this?  My old passport had stamps from my venture into Ethiopia, and our honeymoon to Mexico.  I don't want to lose those awesome memories.  Or do you get to keep the old one and they just make it invalid or something?   Either way, I just wish they lasted forever!  Easy button please!

Inspiration Tuesday

~Take a chance.
You never know what might happen.~
Today I'm going to try my hand at being crafty.  If it works out, who knows what I may do with it in the future!  Wish me luck!
Most importantly...Everyone enjoy today!  Why? Because you're awesome, trust me. ;)

The weekend

Our weekend was pretty simple.  Friday was spent preparing for Saturday, if you want to call sitting around and not doing too much preparing. :)
We had some fun times in the tub as always!

I finished my paper on the Fall of the Roman Empire. Which, as much as I was dreading it, I enjoyed.  It was some what interesting learning about all the things that led to the crumbling of one of the most powerful empires.

Saturday we had a game against ISU.  It was a mini tournament I guess so there were several games going on.  The fam came out to support us, although it was so freezing cold they ended up having to leave not too much after they got there.  Poor Ms. K wasn't having being wrapped up in a blanket the whole time.
The last week or so I've had a bit of a pulled groin and thought I would be in alright condition to play.  That unfortunately was my mistake.  During the 2nd half within 10 minutes of the half staring I pulled it even worse.  I was in tears by the end of the game and could barely walk.
Ever get that chance to show em what you got, then something goes wrong?  Yeah, this was that.  I felt a bit embarrassed because I'm pretty sure no one noticed I was hurtin' till after the game so it probably looked like I was just being lazy as I was struggling to chase the ball.  Things happen and we move on though right?  I'll be spending Monday and Tuesday recovering, and hopefully by this coming Saturday I can be somewhat useful. Haha.

Enough of me feeling sorry, the moral of the story is WE WON! :)  It was a good game.  I enjoyed just being out in the freezing with the girls and being goofs.
Later that night we took the girls over to hang out with some friends and have some pretty awesome home made burritos.  I tried my hand at some Call of Duty on the Xbox, since I hadn't played for years and even then it was on my PS2 I felt the need.  I sucked, of course, haha.  One day I will dominate!  I know it! <3

Sunday was nice and relaxing with some amazing eats at the rents place.
We are trying to finalize some plans for the summer this coming week, on top of me trying to catch up with my online class and study for a test on Tuesday.  It's all doable though and all this craziness keeps us going!

{How was your weekend?  Any life changing plans this coming week?}

I Heart Faces Photo Contest-Slice of Life

So I've recently been reading articles from this great site I Heart Faces with tips on taking photos.  They do weekly challenges with photos. This week I thought hey why not!?
The theme "Slice of Life" is basically something you see that captures life, your family, friends, what have you as long as there is a human face and it looks more candid than not.

This made me really excited because with 10 month olds you can never get them to really pay attention well enough and some of the best shots are of them playing.
I shot this picture of O playing with her Gamma, and it just made my day how adorable it was.

Fill in the blank Friday

  1. My most prized possession is my motorcycles.  Specifically my dirt bike. It's something that has brought my family close together since I was little and something I hope to share with my kids when they are old enough.  During some hard times going out and riding it has made things that much better.
  2. If I could be one age for the rest of my life, I would want to be 22.  I think that was probably one of the best years I've had, filled with fun and adventure.  It was past the awkward and into the awesome!
  3. The best way to spend the weekend is with friends and family doing what we love.  Being outdoors doing crazy things that we can look back on in the future and laugh or cry about. :)
  4. My outlook on life is that we make our lives what they are.  No one has control of your outcome more than you do.  Being happy and loving the people around you will make every bump worth it in the end.  It's your job to surround yourself with positive. PS. It's a freaking adventure!
  5. If you want to annoy me just blame your problems on someone else because you aren't able to see the big picture and make a big scene about it because that makes you the bigger person..right?
  6. I am completely defenseless when it comes to seeing my girls smile and giggle at me.  I'll never be able to say no.
  7. When dressing for the day one should be themselves.  Whatever is going to make you feel your best that day go for it.  No matter what others may think.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  I've got another paper due tonight and then a game in the morning!  Wish me luck!

 {What are you doing this weekend?}

What I'm Thinking Thursday

  1. I've always wanted to get a tattoo, this is something similar to what I want to get, among other ideas.  I just have never gone through with it. Maybe now's the time?
  2. This weather is really taking a toll on miss happy hetty!
  3. Speaking of weather, I hope it doesn't rain on our game Saturday.
  4. As the semester winds down, all of the work and tests are getting crazier.
  5. I could use a good snuggle and laughter from the gremlins right about now.
  6. I'm really hungry.
  7. Life is pretty awesome, I just wish others saw it that way.  (Too soon?)
  8. Everyone needs help once and a while, you just gotta be brave enough to ask.
  9. I miss my big teddy bear of a brother!
  10. I love Astronomy, it's AMAZING...maybe my past options/thoughts should be looked into again.
What do you think?

Child like conversations

As I was driving to school, passing the many schools I do along the way, I saw a couple of kids walking together laughing and talking along the way.  It made me smile to see how carefree they seemed as they enjoyed their walk to school.  It also made me think, what did I talk to my friends about when I was 8-10yrs of age?
As I sat there thinking, I couldn't come up with anything.  For the life of me I had no idea what my childhood conversations were like.  I imagine they were of random things like the new sticker I got on my bike, the new laser tag game out in stores, how cute but horribly mean some boy is, or something of the sort.  Now conversations are of money, school work, graduation, babies, bills, etc.
It's like my brain cannot fully wrap around a childs mind.  Even just watching the twins as they play, as Kenzington notices something unusually different about a room and begins to squawk on and on.  I cannot imagine what she is saying about it.  In all seriousness I'm excited to see what they talk about to each other or even to us as they grown and experience the world.
Most likely it will cause us to laugh and sigh at how innocent we all once were.  Don't you wish you could go back to that?

Do you remember any particular conversations you had when you were a child?  One that really stuck with you in your older years?

Birthday Fun

Yesterday was my birthday, it was the year we celebrated me turning 23 for the 2nd time.
I also joined a new club, it's called "23 Forever".  Like it?  You're welcome to join! :)
Hey! It's a valid club and I don't care what anybody says, I can embrace aging without embracing my number!
(Just 4 of my 8 awesome balloons!)

Honestly it was such a fun day!  The night before I got my hair did, maybe someday you'll see how awesome it is.  Although nothing really changed just added some accessory.
I spent the night before at a slumber party with the rugby team, where we had a ball and stayed up till all hours of the morning.  I ended up coming home around 6am though so that I would have time to get ready for the day.  9am and we had a lovely breakfast at Mimi's Cafe, who doesn't love that place?  So good.
After that we just hung out at the parents relaxing.
The girls loved seeing balloons for the first time.  Specially Ms. K, she just wanted to hold onto em.

Ms. O was a little more interested in the decorated weight, hehe.

What did I get for my awesomest birthday?
Thanks to all my family pitching in, I LOVE YOU GUYS, they got together and helped me get this!!
(can you tell I'm like hyperventilating with excitement?!...well you should)

*Jumps up and down*  Yay!  Now I don't have to use my iPhone to document the girls and our lives!
The package came with 2 lenses and a great carrying bag.  All I can say the 2hrs of waiting for it to charge the battery was the longest 2 hours of the year!
(Thanks Dad, Mom, Neal, and Austin)

As we waited to go out to dinner with Austin's family I was able to mess around just a little bit with the new addition to the family, haha.

Isn't he a doll?

This is what happens when you leave the room and your husband gets a hold of the camera..Food gets captured!

This last one of K was from clear across the room with the 55-250 lens...awesome

Anyway, sorry!  We just have never had a good camera and now we do and it's so fun to play with.  I'm not an amazing photographer but I'm loving playing around with it and seeing what it can do. :)

Yes, so, we went out to eat at Applebees with his parents and it was soooo good.  I love that place!  It was great to sit, eat and relax with them.  The girls tried some celery for the first time and made the silliest faces!  We all ended up taking most our food home we got so stuffed.
His parents were so so awesome and gave us a FREE date night!  All expenses paid for dinner and movie :)
(Thank you Chris and Kathy! Love you guys)

We sent the girls off home with his mom and headed to see Paul.

Seriously such a funny movie, we were literally LOLing the entire time.  Then again we find some pretty stupid things funny, so. ;)
There are also some pretty great movies I'm excited to see coming out.  Just hope we get more time to see them. Such is life with kids, yes?

To say the least it was a very fun birthday and I loved every minute of it, despite only having 2 hours of sleep!
Thanks again to all those who entered the Giveaway and I hope to host more in the future!

Hope everyone had is having a wonderful weekend!
 Back to the grind tomorrow.

St. Patricks Day

Best word to describe: Simple :)  We didn't do much and since we couldn't seem to find much green around the house only one of them got to wear a shirt sporting their Irish colors!

So Kenzington has this thing where she doesn't like it if Oakley has a binki in while she doesn't...

Before ^^

After, haha. ^^

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

So I've seen quite a few bloggers who do this Thursday tradish and I thought I would go ahead and give it a little try. :)

Awkward-
  • Attempting to show off some teeth and then proceeding to get bit, hard.
  • People thinking when I call the girls "Gremlins" or "little monsters" it's because they annoy me or I'm not a good mother...
  • Stepping into the school restroom to find an ink line on your nose..thanks person who I was just speaking with for telling me. :P
  • Simply that awkward silence between people who no longer have anything to say to one another.

Awesome-

  • walking into the nursery and having 2 smiling faces waiting for you
  • Ms. K screaming so loud she scares herself
  • knowing how awesome this coming summer will be
  • fitting into a swimsuit again, properly
  • the amazing new people who have decided to join in reading my crazy thoughts
  • finally this AWESOME AMAZING Giveaway everyone should be sure to check out HERE  (ends Saturday March 19th)
Hoping everyone is having a great St. Patty's day!  Are you wearing green and eating green? Wow..there are soo many green things we could be doing!

The tooth monster

You Don't know what the tooth monster is?  Well that's probably because when you were visited by him you were so tiny you can't remember.  The tooth monster is the rude guy who comes over night, does a little dance, and coaxes your teeth to come out of their soft bed in the gums.
Unfortunately he must have done the dance for too long because he's caused an attack on the gremlins mouth!
Poor Ms. O gets hit first as always.  We noticed she was getting her top/front/right tooth and the one directly to the right of it about a week ago.  Then to our surprise, after checking a few days later, she had all 4 top front teeth peeking their little white heads through her tiny pink gums.
If you've followed us regularly you'll know O is our extremist/drama queen.  The slightest thing cannot go without a bit of a dramatic scene!
So to say the least the days have been long.

Then of course her sister had to tag behind and start getting the same 4 top teeth coming  in.  Luckily she takes things a little better and hasn't been a terror other than wanting to eat lots of snacks and chew on everything in sight! :)

What do we do to help them through this horrible process that I'm glad I don't remember?
Well our normal method of teething tablets sadly went out the window when they recalled them a few months back.  If this affected any other mums out there, I feel your pain. Those worked wonders!!
As of late we have been resorting to the much more common methods.

*as i pull out my bottle of rum* I kid, I kid. <3

Here is one I kind of like-

See what you do is, put some frozen/cold fruit or veggies (what ever your baby likes) inside the little net.  Hand it over and they just simply chew or suck on it.  Can I have one? :p  It's like a Popsicle for babies. We also have tried putting teething rings in the fridge but they don't seem to like chewing on those when they are cold.

Another thing we've found that works is rubbing their gums with our fingers.  I know there are some out there that can't handle their drool, Mr. A himself being one.  So I end up doing most of the rubbing.  But they seem to calm and enjoy it before, after a while, becoming bored.

We've tried those numbing gels but I honestly can say I don't like them and feel like it was a waste of money.  Half the time you don't properly get it on the gums and the other half you spend watching them hoping you haven't numbed their gag reflex.  So, that idea went out the window.

Many moms know it's a nightmare when it comes to sleeping/napping while they are teething.  In this I feel like we lucked out.  Because when our girls are hurting they generally like to sleep more often.  So it's been a week or so of lots of naps, but in shorter lengths.  Our nights haven't been bad either, O of course was a little monster one night and woke up about every 2 hours but would fall back asleep very quickly. Since that night though they sleep from 7:30pm-7:30am without so much as a sniffle.
Moral of this story is: If you can get them to sleep through the pain, do it. :)

We have also started to brush their giant teeth in those little mouths.  They seem to enjoy the taste of their toothpaste and the feel of the brush on their gums.

Really it comes down to what your baby likes and is more comfortable with.  I cannot imagine when they start getting those huge molars coming in.  I feel as though we may need to just take O in and have her sedated.  LOL, of course I kid again.

So in conclusion, they both soon will have 6 teeth in total.  With more to come I'm sure.

This Saturday they will be 10 months old (8 adjusted) and too much is happening too fast!
